Why doesn't hot water pass through the filter? And what happens in case it does?

The Role of the Water Filter

Certified water filters are designed to properly filter water by removing all contaminants and unwanted substances. One of the basic filtering mechanisms is the active pharmaceutical carbon, which is effective in absorbing all chemicals such as chlorine, organic compounds and other contaminants.

The Danger of Hot Water Crossing

Activated charcoal is designed to operate at specific temperatures, usually with a limit below 30°C. When hot water passes through the filter, various adverse conditions occur:

  1. Deactivation of Activated Pharmaceutical Carbon: At high temperatures, the absorption properties of activated charcoal are drastically reduced. This means that the charcoal loses its ability to absorb chemicals and contaminants effectively.
  2. Physical Damage to the Filter: Heat can cause physical damage to the filter materials, including the parts that are joined together. This damage can shorten the life of the filter and cause leaks or other malfunctions.
  3. Inadequate Water Purification: If the activated carbon is not working properly, the filter cannot remove chlorine and other undesirable substances from the water, so the water consumed is not as clean as it should be.

What You Should Do If Hot Water Passes

If you accidentally pass hot water through the filter, there are a few steps you can take to see if your filter is still working properly:

  1. Pass Cold Water: Allow cold water to pass through the filter for at least 10 minutes. This helps to cool the activated carbon and remove any heat-sensitive substances that may have been absorbed during the passage of the hot water.
  2. Chlorine Removal Test: After passing cold water, test the filtered water to see if it removes chlorine. You can do this either by a chemical test for chlorine or simply by taste. Water that has been properly purified should not have the characteristic chlorine smell and taste.
  3. Evaluation of Performance: If you find that the filter still removes chlorine and the water tastes good, then it is probably not significantly damaged. However, if you suspect that the filter is not working properly, contact Camelot officials for a professional inspection.
